LILBURN, Ga. – The University of South Carolina Aiken women’s basketball team is ranked fifth in the 2012-13 preseason USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches' Poll.

The ranking of fifth marks the first-ever top-5 ranking for the USC Aiken women’s basketball team. USC Aiken was ranked sixth in the preseason Women’s Division II Bulletin top-25.

Since being ranked for the first time in the 2010-11 season on Dec. 14, 2010, USC Aiken has now been ranked in the top-25 in the last 28 polls. The Pacers have been ranked in the top-10 in each of the last three years.

“It is really great to be recognized once again,” remarked 11th-year head women’s basketball coach Mike Brandt. “It is also nice for both polls to have us consistently in basically the same spot. We now have a target on our back and it is our goal to go out and defend these lofty expectations.”

USC Aiken is one of three Peach Belt Conference teams ranked in the preseason top-25. Clayton State is 10th, while Lander is 20th.

Ashland is the preseason national No. 1.

USC Aiken was ranked all of the 2011-12 season. It marked the first time in program history that the Pacers went an entire season in the top-25. The Pacers concluded the 2011-12 season ranked 12th. The final ranking of 12th marked the highest-ever final national ranking for the USC Aiken women’s basketball program. The Pacers were ranked 13th in the final national poll of the 2010-11 season.

The 2011-12 season saw USC Aiken end the year with a record of 27-4. The four losses were the fewest in school history, while the 27 wins ties the 2010-11 team for most wins in a season. The Pacers' winning percentage of .871 was also the best in school history.
