USC Aiken golf finishes 9th in Charleston

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – Matt Atkins finished sixth individually and the nationally third-ranked University of South Carolina Aiken golf team finished in ninth place as a team at the Eighth Annual Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate at the 6,828-yard, par-72 Wexford Plantation Course.

USC Aiken finished with a three-round team total of 912 (310-296-306). The Pacers were the only NCAA Division II team in the 18-team field.

Atkins (Owensboro, Ky./Henderson State) closed out the tournament with a 1-over score of 217. After opening with a 74 in round one, Atkins carded a 3-under 69 in round two. He finished with a 74 in the third and final round.

The top-10 finish was the ninth of Atkins’ Pacer career.

Three Pacers closed out the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate in the top-50 individually with JP Solis (Morelia, Mexico/Lico Morelia) finishing tied for 37th at 230 (79-72-79).

Drew McElveen (Murrells Inlet, S.C./St. James HS) ended the tournament in a tie for 41st at 231 (79-77-75).
