USC Aiken battles Montevallo for PBC soccer title Sunday

EVANS, Ga. – The eighth-seeded University of South Carolina Aiken men’s soccer team will battle second-seeded Montevallo for the 2012 Peach Belt Conference Tournament title on Sunday afternoon at Blanchard Woods Park.

The 2012 Peach Belt Conference Tournament championship game is set for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff from Blanchard Woods Park in Evans, Ga. on Sunday, Nov. 4. Blanchard Woods Park is also the site of the 2012 NCAA Division II National Championships.

All the action in the championship game will be able to be followed live on USC Aiken’s official athletic website at www.PacerSports.com.

The first No. 8 seed to advance to the Peach Belt Conference Tournament championship game, USC Aiken enters the final coming off two thrilling shootout wins in the quarterfinals and semifinals.

USC Aiken (6-5-6) downed national No. 6 Lander, 4-3, in quarterfinal shootout action in Greenwood, S.C. on Tuesday, Oct. 30. The Pacers then dispatched of fourth-seeded Young Harris, 5-4, in a shootout on Friday, Nov. 2 at Blanchard Woods Park.

Montevallo (12-4-2) is playing in its third consecutive Peach Belt Conference Tournament Championship game. The Falcons claimed the Peach Belt Conference Tournament title in 2010.

Montevallo makes it way to the 2012 tournament championship game after a 1-0 home win over seventh-seeded Clayton State in the quarterfinals and a 2-0 win over third-seeded Flagler in the semifinals.

Montevallo garnered a narrow 1-0 double-overtime victory over USC Aiken in their 2012 regular-season matchup on Saturday, Oct. 13 at the “Pacer Pit.”

USC Aiken is making its first appearance in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Championship game since 2006. USC Aiken will be searching for its first-ever Peach Belt Conference Tournament Championship title on Sunday.

Action on Championship Sunday at Blanchard Woods Park gets underway at 1 p.m. with top-seeded and national No. 1 Armstrong facing off against third-seeded and national No. 20 Columbus State in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Women’s Championship game.

Tickets for Championship Sunday are just $6. A youth (12-and-under) ticket on Sunday is $3.
