USC Aiken baseball remains fifth in national poll

TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team remained in fifth in the second 2013 regular-season Collegiate Baseball Newspaper NCAA Division II Poll.

USC Aiken was ranked 10th in the preseason poll released on Dec. 21, 2012. The Pacers moved up five spots to fifth in the first regular-season national tally.

The Pacers have now been ranked in 19 straight national polls. The Pacers were ranked inside the top-30 in the final 16 national polls of the 2012 season.

USC Aiken is the highest ranked Peach Belt Conference team in the latest national tally.

Four Peach Belt Conference teams are ranked in the top-30 in total with Lander (seventh), UNC Pembroke (17th) and Armstrong Atlantic State (26th) also nationally ranked.

Mount Olive is presently the No. 1 team. Delta State is second in the latest national poll, while Catawba is third. Tampa is just ahead of the Pacers in fourth.

Nationally fifth-ranked USC Aiken (5-1) will next welcome Shepherd to Roberto Hernandez Stadium for a three-game series for the first time.

The Rams and Pacers will commence their three-game series at 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 15. The series will close with single 1 p.m. games on Saturday, Feb. 16 and Sunday, Feb. 17.

Shepherd, which is the alma mater of current Pacer head assistant coach Jason Walck, and USC Aiken have not met since 1992. The Pacers own a 2-0 all-time series advantage in the series.
