MARTINEZ, Ga. -- Very rarely do you find a four-year starter at quarterback. For Augusta Christian, Tyler Roberson is that guy. Each year he's gotten better, smarter and has become more mature. He's also a winner and thus our Academy Sports and Outdoors player of the week.
This past Friday Roberson did the damage early and often against Porter Gaud. When it was all said and done, three touchdowns on the ground, another through the air and 270 yards of offense. He is the leader of the Lions and the stats are an afterthought. His sole desire is to win.
"You know I do like passing a lot but running is pretty fun, too," said Tyler Roberson. "So it doesn't really matter, I'm not really a big guy on stats anyways, but just whatever I got to do to win, it's fun to me either way."
"He's experienced," said Keith Walton. "He doesn't get too high, he doesn't get too low. He knows how to look into the huddle and tell the kids, his other teammates, to give them words of encouragement or tell them to come on, let's get it together, and they listen."
Roberson readily admits he use to sit back and let the seniors lead the way. But starting last year, he took more of a leadership role. This season, everyone is looking up to him and he's providing the direction.
