AIKEN, S.C. – The current seven-game winning streak for the University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team has helped 14th-year head baseball coach Kenny Thomas to surpass 500 wins in his time as the Pacer baseball coach.
After USC Aiken’s impressive perfect 4-0 week last week that saw USC Aiken take a three-game league sweep from No. 10 Lander in Greenwood, S.C. this past weekend along with besting No. 28 Catawba, 15-3, in Salisbury, N.C. on Tuesday, April 9, Thomas now has 501 wins in his time as the Pacer mentor. Thomas is 501-285 at the helm of the Pacers entering USC Aiken’s final eight games of the 2013 regular-season.
Eclipsing the 500-win mark as head coach of the Pacers is one of two important milestones that Thomas has reached in the 2013 season. Earlier this year the Pacer mentor acquired his 1,000th-career victory after USC Aiken concluded its three-game league sweep of Flagler on March 2.
Thomas is presently 1,021-508 in 26 seasons as a head coach. He is currently in the top-40 among active NCAA Division II coaches for wins. His .637 winning percentage as the Pacer skipper places him in the top-30 among active NCAA Division II head coaches.
In addition to the claiming the career milestones this season, Thomas has guided the 2013 USC Aiken baseball team to a national top-10 ranking and a 34-8 record overall. The Pacers are currently leading the Peach Belt Conference with a league mark of 19-5.
USC Aiken after its sweep of No. 10 Lander has now claimed nine of its 11 three-game series this season (Lincoln Memorial, Carson-Newman, Shepherd, Francis Marion, Flagler, Young Harris, North Georgia, Augusta State and Lander). The Pacers swept Lincoln Memorial, Shepherd, Flagler, Young Harris, North Georgia, Augusta State and Lander.
USC Aiken will next welcome first-time foe Shorter to Roberto Hernandez Stadium for a 4 p.m. contest on Wednesday, April 17.
