Augusta, Ga--Day three of the NFL draft and finally, after a couple of stressful days, part of the local contingent getting the much anticipated phone call. Westside's Sanders Commings first up today and he's headed to the midwest.
The former Georgia Bulldog was the first pick of the fifth round by the Kansas City Chiefs. Commings was actually drafted in baseball a few years back as well, but waited out his collegiate playing days and now is ready for a shot in the National Football League.
"This is a once in a lifetime deal, being drafted by an NFL team" said Sanders Commings "It's someting I've been working for my entire life and I never had a feeling like this. I answered the phone and it was their general manager and and he asked me, are you excited, i was like, yea, you ready to be a Chief? Yes sir, let's do it"
His Bulldog teammate and former Burke County star Corneilius Washington had to wait a while. Washington selected by the bears in the sixth round, 188th overall. Earlier in the day, the Gamecocks Ace Sanders was selected by Jacksonville and also in the round, Marcus Lattimore. He goes to San Franciscio in the fourth round as well.
