August 26, 2013 Last season was a disappointing one in Evans football. All the pieces seemed to be in place before the Knights struggled to a 3-7 record. Heading in to 2013, head coach Marty Jackson and the Knights know how to stay positive and they have some very good reasons for keeping the optimism going.
A running back crew of Joacinto Grimes and Ronnie Graham are pushing Evans toward some offensive success. Each player has matured, and each put on some explosive shows for the Knights in 2012.
Of course, Grimes and Graham can only do their job if they have the big men up front blocking. Coach Jackson believes he's got the size in the trenches. Now, can they keep up the fight to survive in 5A-Region 2.
"All of our backs are very good. I think we're the best in the county. I wouldn't trade any of them. It just makes it easier because we have so many options," Graham said.
"I'm excited about it. I'm going to have an optimistic attitude...it's football season. We're definitely pumped about what's happening. They have prepared to succeed. Now, we just have to go out there and play in one of the toughest regions in the state," coach Jackson said.
Possibly a new starter at quarterback for Evans, Matlin Marshall took a few snaps under center last season. Coach Jackson expects Marshall to take the starter snaps this year.
