Augusta, GA -- The weather is not exactly bringing thoughts of ice and pucks to mind yet, but no matter. Hockey season is here.
The RiverHawks are back for year three, starting training camp Monday morning at the James Brown Arena.
Things are a little different this time around with Rob Miller taking over as head coach, but the goals are the same.
This team has been one of the best in the league from the start, playing for the championship two years ago and winning the regular season title last year. The problem...they haven't ended the season at number one.
It's only day one on the ice, but the team has its motivation.
Head Coach Miller said, "They kind of got a bitter taste in their mouth and wanted to come back and finish a job that they felt wasn't really completed. It was a good regular season, and then, you know, the playoffs. They really want to come back here this year and, like I said, finish the job."
Captain Matt Auffrey added, "Every year we want to win it. We won the league last year but not the playoffs. We want to win both, and that's always our goal."
The RiverHawks have 26 guys on the ice right now, including Augusta native Drew Slaton.
In a week's time, the roster will be cut down to 18.
Augusta opens the season in just twelve days, October 26th at Mississippi.
