In the bottom of the seventh, Charleston’s Greg Bird hit a grand slam to give the RiverDogs a 6-3 lead against the GreenJackets. But Augusta’s offense came through for the second night in a row. With two outs and runners on the corner in the top of the eighth, left fielder Andrew Cain hit a three-run home run to tie the game up.

Unfortunately Cain’s home run wasn’t enough to give Augusta the win as the RiverDogs (50-37) used a ninth inning rally to defeat the GreenJackets (47-41) 8-7.

Jesus Galindo started things off for the GreenJackets by leading off the first inning with a walk. Then after Galindo earned his 41st stolen base, second baseman Trevor Brown advanced Galindo to third on a sacrifice fly. Galindo then gave the GreenJackets an early 1-0 lead when Matt Duffy drove him in with a line drive single to right field.

Augusta continued to scrape together runs against Charleston.

In the fifth inning, Brown crossed home plate on a single to left field by third baseman Mitch Delfino to put the GreenJackets up 2-1. Augusta scored its third run in the sixth.

First baseman Ben Turner got on with a double to left field. Turner than advanced to third on a sacrifice fly by catcher Eric Sim and scored on a single by Cain.

But in the bottom of the seventh, Augusta lost its lead for the first time. Left hander Mason McVay relieved starter Chris Stratton with no outs and runners on first and second, but unfortunately gave up a grand slam to Bird.

The GreenJackets weren’t down for long though.

With designated hitter Shayne Houck on third base and Sim on first, Cain sent one out over the left field wall to tie the game at 6 in the eighth. Cain’s homer on Friday night was his fifth of the season.

Then in the top of the ninth, Houck used a sacrifice fly to score Brown from third and give the GreenJackets a 7-6 lead. However, the RiverDogs scored two runs in the ninth to grab the win.

The GreenJackets will face the RiverDogs tomorrow at 6:05 p.m. in Charleston.
