Edgefield, SC--For the past five or six years, Strom Thurmond has gotten this far in the state playoffs, but haven't gotten over the hump and back to the title game. They've had plenty of great players during the stretch, but now its time for the next step.

That step would be beating top ranked hartsville friday night. Led by Havueer Hammond, Darius Hammond and the blue steel defense, the Rebels do have a cause. First five or six minutes of each half could be key. Pretty much all year Thurmond has gotten out of the gates quickly and it could set the stage for a big game.

"We need to start off faster" said Ty Brooks "We start off fast, and the defense start off fast, then we'll be good. And they have a weak special teams so we'll be good there."

"I believe that a great deal" said Aaron Cook "we need to start off good to just keep running and you know, keep going from there."

Rebels will face a Hartsville team that runs, runs and runs some more, something they haven't really haven't faced since Silver Bluff. Then again the foxes probably haven't faced a team quite like this one.

"Like you said we've been knocking on the door for five or six years now" said Lee Sawyer "I think, and coach (Al) Lown mentioned it back a couple of months ago, maybe just a little more solid from top to bottom."

Strom Thurmond is the smallest team in class 3-A but are now one of four teams left. Winner heads to Columbia and Williams Brice Stadium next Saturday night with a chance at a state title.
