EVANS, Ga. (WRDW) -- News 12 has obtained the termination letter for the head baseball coach at Greenbrier High School, who was let go on Monday.

In the letter dated June 3, 2013, Principal Chris Segraves says he and Coach Chris Wilkins met on June 26, 2012, to talk about how baseball concession stand money was in the red by $1,763.76. The principal says in this meeting that Wilkins was made aware that this should not happen again and that all purchases must be made with the purchasing card or school check.

Segraves says for the third consecutive year, the season ended with a negative concessions balance of more than $1,600.

The letter reads: "Mr. Wilkins, coaching at Greenbrier High School encompasses more than wins and losses. One of the many other responsibilities includes the proper handling of money, including accurately counting, properly receipting and making timely deposits of money as required by Board policy and procedure. It also includes making purchases with either a school check or a purchasing card to ensure that funds are being properly dispersed and accounted for."

The letter goes on to say, "With a heavy heart, I have relieved you of your head coaching responsibilities for the Greebrier Baseball Program."

Wilkins had been at Greenbrier for nine years, including a stint as an assistant baseball coach before landing the head coach job. He graduated from Westside High School, playing for the legendary Gerald Barnes. Wilkins lead the team to 120 wins in five seasons and to back-to-back trips to the state championship series.
