May 4, 2014 AUGUSTA, GA-- It's no secret pitching drives the Augusta GreenJackets. When the staff isn't at it's best, it can lead to some very long games.
As was the case Sunday, the GreenJackets dropped their first game of the series against Greenville Drive, 12-2.
The GreenJackets had eight hits in the game, but left ten men on base and went 2 for 15 with runners in scoring position. The team scored their two runs in the fifth inning on a ground out by Jeremy Sy.
Greenville successfully teed off on the GreenJackets pitching. Their first two runs were scored off of a triple, by Jordan Witte, in the third. The Drive broke it open in the fifth with six runs.
In the ninth, Kendrick Perkins hit a two-run home run. A single, a fielding error and a wild pitch allowed Zach Kapstein to score. Jesus Loya scored the final run of the game on a sacrifice fly by Jake Romanski.
For Monday's series finale, GreenJackets RHP Chase Johnson (1-2 3.38) will make the start against Greenvilles RHP Teddy Stankewicz (3-2, 4.15). First pitch is set for 7 PM.
