We're under a week away from crowning a champion in horse racing's final jewel of the Triple Crown, the Belmont Stakes. Don't look now, but one of the favorites could be the colt from Aiken, Palace Malice.

The last time we saw the Dogwood Stable horse, he dominated the Kentucky Derby for three-quarters of a mile before running out of gas and coasting in for a 12th place finish.

Stable owner Cot Campbell knows that performance was the exception and not the rule for this particular horse, and he's got a key reason to believe things will be different this time around.

"He had blinkers on designed to focus him," Campbell said. "I think that sometimes causes a horse to be a little bit speed crazy. With the blinkers on that day at Churchill Downs, his speed could not be conserved, so I'd say the blinkers are off."

The Belmont is a quarter mile longer than the Kentucky Derby so they'll need to make sure he doesn't break so quickly this time around.

If work outs are any indication, it could be a special weekend. He's been getting better reviews than pretty much any other horse in the field.
