Oct. 14, 2013 Everything was perfect, but the final score. That's the weekend summary of Paine College football coach, Greg Ruffin.
Still a pretty good weekend overall. Ruffin's Lions played their first football game in over five decades and brought college football back to Augusta.
No one will deny, Paine had their chances in a historic, Saturday afternoon at Laney Stadium.
The final score read-- Georgia Prep Academy 20, Paine 13. However, Coach Ruffin was all smiles when talking about the support his team received from the community. It was an emotional event for the Lions program.
"The moment was sort of surreal as they talked about what the moment meant. They talked about what being in Augusta meant, what being at Paine College meant," Coach Ruffin said. "I think that's when you know that this is bigger than football."
A change on the schedule coming for Paine this weekend.
The Lions are hosting Orangeburg College this weekend rather than the previously scheduled Atlanta Sports Academy. The teams have discussed rescheduling the game for a later date.
