Pacers golf finishes 5th in Ohio

AKRON, Ohio – The nationally seventh-ranked University of South Carolina Aiken men's golf team finished in fifth place as a team at The Firestone Invitational at the par-72, 7,125-yard Firestone Country Club.

The tournament hosted by Akron was sponsored by FirstEnergy Solutions. The Pacers were the only NCAA Division II team in the field.

The Pacers closed out The Firestone Invitational with a two-round team score of 586 (285-301).

USC Aiken had four players finish in the top-30 individually in the tournament with Matt Atkins (Owensboro, Ky./Henderson State) leading the way by tying for fifth place. Atkins finished his two rounds in the tournament with a 2-under score of 142 (68-74).

Atkins now has five top-5 individual finishes in his career.

JP Solis (Morelia, Mexico/Lico Morelia) tied for 20th with a two-round tally of 147 (69-78). Mark Dickson (Edinburgh, Scotland/Firrhill) and Kyle Godsman (Moray, Scotland/Lossiemouth) tied for 30th with two-round scores of 149.

Ball State won the team tile at The Firestone Invitational with a two-round team tally of 569 (282-287).

Maryland’s Sean Bosdosh carded a two-round score of 139 (69-70) to acquire individual medalist honors.
