Aiken, SC--When the season started, USC Aiken coach Kenny Thomas knew he had a special team that could do some damage this year. They have with a 36 and 15 record. Now, it's time to crank it up a notch with the NCAA regionals slated to begin tomorrow in Greenwood.
A balanced hitting attack, some solid top line pitching and, for the most part, a pretty good team defensively, tough to find many chinks in the armour. At this time of year, everyone is in the same boat and anyone is capable of coming out of the region. One thing the Pacers have done, stay relaxed, which is big in may.
"Sometimes I think these guys are so loose, they're goofy" said Kenny Thomas "Then again, that's what they think I am, so it doesn't matter. I don't think they're too tight, they're a pretty loose bunch. I do think a couple of times this year we kind of tightened up a little bit, thinking it's a must game."
"The whole main goal all year was to make the regional and start with a clean slate. That way we could put it all behind us and put it all together at once and that's where we're at now" said Ty Barkell
Pacers take on Columbus state tomorrow morning. The two teams have identical records and the cougars won two of the three in the regular season. As Thomas said, ask me about 3 pm tomorrow, how I feel about the matchup. It's a double elimination format so no matter what, the Pacers will play at least one more game.
