Pacers baseball moves back into top five

TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team is ranked fifth in the 11th 2013 regular-season Collegiate Baseball Newspaper NCAA Division II Poll.

USC Aiken was ranked 10th in the preseason poll released on Dec. 21, 2012. The Pacers moved up five spots to fifth in the first regular-season national tally. The Pacers remained fifth in the second regular-season poll.

The Pacers were ranked sixth in the third, fourth and fifth regular-season polls. USC Aiken was ranked 13th in the sixth regular-season tally. USC Aiken had moved back up to eighth in the seventh regular-season poll. USC Aiken was ranked sixth in the eighth regular-season tally. USC Aiken was tabbed 10th in the ninth regular-season poll. Last week, USC Aiken was ranked ninth.

The Pacers have now been ranked in 28 straight national polls. The Pacers were ranked inside the top-30 in the final 16 national polls of the 2012 season.

USC Aiken is one of three Peach Belt Conference teams ranked in the latest national tally. UNC Pembroke is currently tied for 10th, while Lander is 19th.

Mount Olive is presently the No. 1 team in the nation, while Delta State is second. Cal State Chico is third and Colorado Mesa is just ahead of the Pacers in fourth.

Winners of seven straight, USC Aiken enters the upcoming week leading the Peach Belt Conference with a record of 19-5. The Pacers are currently 34-8 overall.

USC Aiken after its sweep of then No. 10 and current No. 19 Lander this past weekend has now claimed nine of its 11 three-game series this season (Lincoln Memorial, Carson-Newman, Shepherd, Francis Marion, Flagler, Young Harris, North Georgia, Augusta State and Lander). The Pacers swept Lincoln Memorial, Shepherd, Flagler, Young Harris, North Georgia, Augusta State and Lander.

USC Aiken will open its upcoming week by welcoming first-time foe Shorter to Roberto Hernandez Stadium for a 4 p.m. contest on Wednesday, April 17.

The Pacers will then close out their week by welcoming Columbus State to Roberto Hernandez Stadium for a three-game Peach Belt Conference series on Saturday, April 20 and Sunday, April 21. The series will begin with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 20. First pitch in game one of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.

The league series will close with a single 1 p.m. game on Sunday, April 21. Sunday’s game will serve as Pack the Park and City of Aiken Baseball Day at the ‘Bert.

The weekend series against Columbus State will also serve as USC Aiken baseball Alumni Weekend.
