AUGUSTA, Ga. – University of South Carolina Aiken baseball standout Ty Barkell has been named the AstroTurf Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the league office.
A junior first baseman, Barkell hit .588 with an .824 slugging percentage while guiding the Pacers to a 3-1 record.
He picked up a hit in all four games, including three of the multi-hit variety. Barkell batted .692 in the three-game set against Montevallo. In the opener, he was four-for-five with two RBI. In the second game, Barkell was two-for-four with two more RBI while completing the series with a three-of-four effort with a round-tripper.
Barkell scored four runs, swiped two bases and was perfect in 30 chances at first base, including two assists. He is currently fifth in the PBC in slugging percentage, sixth in homers and eighth in RBI.
Barkell and the rest of the Pacers hit the diamond tomorrow at Newberry for a 6 p.m., non-conference affair.
