BEAVERTON, Ore. – University of South Carolina Aiken junior women’s basketball player Kayla Harris has been tabbed a 2012-13 preseason All-America selection by the Women’s Division II Bulletin.
Harris (Raleigh, N.C./Wakefield HS) is one of 16 players included in the Super 16 selections. Two players from each of the respective eight NCAA Division II regions were selected.
Harris joins junior forward Jaymee Carnes of North Georgia as the two representatives from the Southeast region in the Super 16 selections.
Kari Daugherty of Ashland was dubbed the preseason national Player of the Year by the publication.
A junior forward, Harris closed out her sophomore season in the 2011-12 season by being chosen an Honorable Mention All-American by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association and the Women’s Division II Bulletin.
Harris was named to the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional All-Tournament Team for the second consecutive season. Harris was also a First-Team All-Peach Belt Conference Selection and a Peach Belt Conference Tournament All-Tournament choice.
Harris concluded her second year in a Pacer uniform averaging 15.8 points per game. She averaged 15.5 points per game in conference action this past season.
Harris in total averaged 15.8 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.0 steals per game in the 2011-12 season.
Harris scored in double figures 25 times during the 2011-12 season. She posted 11 20-plus point games. She is already ninth in school history in total points with 885.
