Pacer baseball team ranked 10th in the preseason

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken baseball team is ranked 10th in the 2013 preseason Collegiate Baseball Newspaper NCAA Division II Poll.

The preseason ranking of 10th means the Pacers have now been ranked in 17 straight national polls. The Pacers were ranked inside the top-30 in the final 16 national polls of the 2012 season.

The 2012 USC Aiken baseball team was ranked 20th in the final 2012 Collegiate Baseball Newspaper NCAA Division II Poll. USC Aiken’s final ranking of 20th in 2012 marked the first time since 2009 that the Pacers had appeared in the final national rankings.

The Pacers are one of two Peach Belt Conference teams in the 2013 preseason top-10. Francis Marion is just ahead of the Pacers in seventh in the preseason tally.

In total, USC Aiken and Francis Marion are two of six Peach Belt Conference teams ranked in the preseason top-40 with Lander (26th), UNC Pembroke (T-32nd), Columbus State (26th) and Armstrong (38th) all among the ranked teams.

Defending national champion West Chester is first in the preseason tally. Delta State is second, while Mount Olive is third in the preseason poll.

Despite the final national ranking of 20th in 2012, USC Aiken did not advance to the 48-team NCAA Division II Tournament.

The Pacers concluded their 2012 season with a 37-18 record. USC Aiken was ranked as high as third nationally in the 2012 season.

USC Aiken earned at least 30 wins for the 11th time in the past 13 seasons.

The 2013 USC Aiken baseball schedule features 32 home games at Roberto Hernandez Stadium. The Pacers will begin the year by playing their first 17 games of the year inside the friendly confines of the 'Bert.
