March 24, 2014 AUGUSTA, Ga-- On the recruiting front, Augusta Christian lineman Zach Giella has become a popular prospect in the 2015 class.
Amazingly, it's all happened in the last two months. To say Giella's recruitment has blown up quickly would be an understatement.
It all started the day before the 2014 signing day when Giella picked up his first offer from the University of Kentucky.
"He said to me, 'Zach I'm going to cut to the chase. I'm offering you a full scholarship to the University of Kentucky.' Everything after that just went blurry," Giella said.
That moment was a big one for the Augusta Christian junior, but the days after have been just as dizzying.
One after the other, colleges from across the country took notice.
Fourteen offers later, the 6'7", 300 pound lineman is a highly sought-after recruit.
"Never in my craziest dreams did I think it would happen like this. All it took was one and I was gone. One after the other...I didn't even have time to digest it. It was so fast. It's really been a great ride. I'm loving it so far, hope it continues," Giella said.
While the timing happened quickly, Giella's rise is all about hard work. A few years ago, at a national underclassmen camp, Giella was beaten off the line in drills. Instead of deterring his motivation , it was moment of realization.
"Something went off in my head. I've got to put more work into this. I'm not just competing against people here. I'm competing against the whole nation, so I've got to be top dog," Giella said.
It's hard to dispute the drive, or dedication. Giella wants to decide on a school before the start of the season, so he can focus on a Lions state championship run.
The class of 2015 prospect isn't ready to announce a top five list, or a favorite among his 14 offers at this time.
