SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) -- Lee County, N.C., coach Burton Cates and Orangeburg-Wilkerson coach Tommy Brown have been named head coaches for the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas.
The announcement was made by Shrine Bowl athletic director Ron Long on Tuesday. Cates will lead the group of North Carolina's top senior high school football players against those of Brown's South Carolina team on Dec. 21.
Cates' North Carolina staff includes Phil Tate of South Point, Darryl Brown of Southern Guilford, Rander Raper of Northern Nash, Robert Cody of Plymouth, Mark Little of West Columbus and Blair Hardin of Porter Ridge.
Brown's South Carolina staff is made up of Robbie Briggs of Manning, Ken Cribb of Hemingway, Andy Palmer of Edisto, Dan Pippin of North Augusta, Joe Watson of J.L. Mann and Mike West of Spartanburg.
