North Augusta swim team reaches new heights

Saturday, October 6, 2012

Saturday was a culmination of nine years' worth of work in the pool for the North Augusta High School swimming team.

For the first time ever, the Yellow Jackets had multiple winners at the state's swim championships.

The returning star of the show was junior Nicole Fuller. After taking the title last year in the 500 meter freestyle, Fuller took the same event in state record time. Then, she added a second championship in the 200 free.

Senior Eric Collins used last year as motivation for two wins of his own. After coming up just short in both the 200 free and 100 breast stroke a year ago, Collins reached the top of the podium in both events.

They weren't alone either. The Yellow Jackets got three swimmers to the top step. The last one was Kelsey Williams. The speedster brings home the title in the 50 freestyle and added a runner-up finish in the 100 free.

The North Augusta program was started from scratch just nine years ago.
