North Augusta, SC--Ever since Dan Pippin took over the North Augusta program a handful of years ago, they've been a team on the rise. All of a sudden big time athletes are in the program and the wins are piling up. Time now for this team to take the next step.
The next step is to play for a state title. Three years ago they were in the semifinals. The past couple of years, the playoff run ended in the second loss. With a talented roster led by Trib Reece on offense and a defense that may be the most underrated around, doing the little things right will give the Jackets a shot at where they want to be, in the mix with powers Goose Creek and Greenwood.
"We got to be better" said Dan Pippin "I think we've been as good in the past, but having those third round playoff games away hurts us. I think playing at home, with our crowd, and all the things we've got going on at home, is a definte advantage for us."
"We have to come out and practice hard every day" said Brandon Maddox "Practice like champions. I mean everybody knows the goal is eventually a state championship, to play for it, to win it, and a region championship along the way."
Look for it to be a running back by committe with the likes of Willie McCloud and Dayshawn Barnes leading the contingent. It helps to have an offensive lineman like Jake Whitley to run behind. On defense, they know they have to be as aggressive as ever and play more on the other side of the ball and cause havoc there. Jackets open the season one week from Friday.
