AIKEN, S.C. – The nationally fourth-ranked University of South Carolina Aiken women’s basketball team closed out its season-opening five-game homestand with a 59-47 victory over Benedict on Saturday at the Convocation Center.
USC Aiken (5-0) led from start-to-finish in the victory over Benedict (2-4). The Pacers led by as many as 21 in the second half before emerging with the 12-point win.
The victory allowed the Pacers to extend their school-record regular-season home winning streak to 22.
Brittany Hill (Mechanicsville, Va./Quinnipiac) led a trio of Pacers in double figures with 17 points, three steals, two blocks, two assists and two rebounds. Hill claimed 13 of her 17 points in the game from the charity stripe where she was 13-for-15. She was 2-of-4 from the field in the Pacer win.
Kayla Harris (Raleigh, N.C./Wakefield HS) finished with 14 points, eight rebounds, four assists and one block.
Daniela Tarailo (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point HS) was the final Pacer in double figures with 10 points. She also had six boards in the contest.
Alexus Jones (13) and Monique Weathers (11) were the top scorers in the game for the Tigers.
USC Aiken as a team closed out the win over the Tigers hitting 40 percent (14-for-35) of its shots as a team. The Pacers held Benedict to just 27.5 percent (14-for-51) shooting as a team.
The Pacers connected on 29 of their 37 (78.4 percent) free throw attempts in the game.
USC Aiken will next hit the road for the first time in the 2012-13 season to face off against current national No. 22 in Wingate, N.C. on Friday, Dec. 7. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
