No. 4 Lady Pacers hold off Montevallo, 68-60

AIKEN, S.C. – The nationally fourth-ranked University of South Carolina Aiken women’s basketball team topped the University of Montevallo, 68-60, Saturday night at the Convocation Center to remain undefeated.

The win ties the program record win streak and continues the best start in USC Aiken women’s basketball history. The Pacers (12-0, 5-0 PBC) tied the 2011-12 squad for the longest winning streak in program history. The 2011-12 Pacers won 12 straight games from Nov. 12, 2011-Jan. 16, 2012.

USC Aiken used a hot-shooting first half in which they shot 66.7 percent (16-for-24) from the floor and 77.8 percent (7-for-9) from three to take a 42-23 lead into the half. The Pacers would never trail in the game despite Montevallo (9-6, 4-2 PBC) holding a second half 37-26 edge in scoring.

The Pacers saw three players score in double figures led by Daniela Tarailo with 19 points, four assists and two steals. Tarailo (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point HS) made a career-best six 3-pointers in going 6-for-9 from behind the arc.

Kayla Harris (Raleigh, N.C./Wakefield HS) had a stat sheet-filling performance with 14 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, five blocks and four steals. The performance set her career-highs in blocks and steals, while tying her career high in assists.

Brittany Hill chipped in 12 points, three assists and seven steals as the final Pacer to post double-digit scoring. Hill (Mechanicsville, Va./Quinnipac) also tied her career-high in steals in the game.

Montevallo’s Taylor Beverly led a trio of Falcons with double-digit scoring, posting a game-high 27 points and 10 boards to tally a double-double.

The Pacers held the Falcons to 37.7 percent (23-for-61) shooting in the game. USC Aiken shot 52.4 percent (22-for-42) from the field and 61.5 percent (8-of-13) from 3-point land.

USC Aiken also held the edge from the charity stripe, shooting 76.2 percent (16-for-21) to Montevallo’s 57.1 percent (12-for-21).

USC Aiken will next be in action on Wednesday, Jan. 16 as they play host to the nationally third-ranked Clayton State Lakers at the Convocation Center. The Pacers will look to improve on their program-best start and winning streak in the tip-off of top-5 programs at 5:30 p.m.

The Pacers enter the top-5 contest with Clayton State having won 25 straight regular-season home games.
