No. 21 Lady Pacers close regular season with win at UNCP

PEMBROKE, N.C. – The nationally 21st-ranked University of South Carolina Aiken women’s basketball team closed out its 2012-13 regular-season with a 71-56 Peach Belt Conference road victory over UNC Pembroke on Saturday afternoon at the English E. Jones Center.

USC Aiken (20-6, 13-6 PBC) claimed its 20th win of the year in its victory over UNC Pembroke (12-16, 6-13 PBC). The Pacers have now claimed 20 or more wins in six of the last seven seasons.

The Pacers and Braves kept things close for the first 13 minutes of the game, but with 6:40 remaining in the first stanza the Pacers had pulled ahead by six points at 25-19.

The Pacers would eventually enter the halftime break with a 34-29 advantage.

USC Aiken closed out the first half shooting 57.7 percent (15-for-26) as a team. UNC Pembroke shot just 34.4 percent (11-for-32) from the field as a team in the first half.

The Pacers would open the second half on a 23-13 run to own a 15-point advantage at 57-42 with 9:10 left in the contest.

UNC Pembroke would not be able to get any closer down the stretch with the Pacers obtaining the 15-point victory.

USC Aiken finished the win over UNC Pembroke shooting 54.2 percent (32-for-59) as a team. The Pacers knocked down 41.7 percent (5-for-12) of their 3-point attempts as a team.

UNC Pembroke ended its loss to USC Aiken shooting 33.9 percent (20-for-59) as a team. The Braves hit just 36.4 percent (4-for-11) of their 3-point attempts in the contest as a team.

Four Pacers concluded the game in double figures with Porsha Martin (Douglasville, Ga./South Paulding HS) leading the way with 19 points and nine rebounds. She also had four assists, a block and a steal.

Daniela Tarailo (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point HS) was just behind Martin with 18 points. She was 7-for-12 from the field in the game. She knocked down four 3-pointers.

USC Aiken’s Tiffani Moody (Raleigh, N.C. / Ohio Valley University) almost claimed a triple-double in the contest. Moody finished the game with 13 rebounds, 12 points and a career-best seven blocks. She also had four assists.

The final Pacer in double figures was Brittany Hill (Mechanicsville, Va./Quinnipiac). She finished her afternoon with 11 points, three rebounds and three assists.

Jazmine Kemp and Taylor Gallentine led UNC Pembroke in its loss to the Pacers with 10 points each.

USC Aiken will enter the Peach Belt Conference Tournament as the second seed in the East Division. Seeding and the bracket for the 2013 Peach Belt Conference Tournament will be released later this evening by the league office.
