Feb. 14, 2014 Now, that the ice has melted, power will (hopefully) return to the area soon, the task of putting order back in the local high school basketball schedule has begun.
On Friday, the GHSA released an updated schedule for the state playoffs. First round games will begin on Friday, Feb. 21 for girls and Saturday, Feb. 22 for boys. The schedule follows an every-other day routine until the semifinal round.
Second round games will be played, Monday, Feb. 24 and Tuesday, Feb. 25, for girls and boys respectively.
Third round match-ups are scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 26 and Thursday, Feb. 27. The schedule for the first three rounds can still be altered into a doubleheader, if both the school's boys and girls teams are both hosting that round.
All semifinals games, except for Class A Private, will be played on Saturday, March 1. The Class-A private semis will be held on Monday, March 3.
The locations for each semifinal game have yet to be determined. Those assignments are expected to be announced on Feb. 26, according to the GHSA website.
The state championship dates remain March 6-8 at the Macon Coliseum.
All local teams must still complete their region tournaments. An update to the shifted, region tournament schedules can be found
As for South Carolina hoops, regular season games still need to be completed. The first round of the state playoffs are scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 20 with the second round following Feb. 22.
