PARRISH, Fla. -- Augusta State senior Natalie Wille shot an even-par 72 Tuesday to earn a share of medalist honors at the Central District Invitational hosted by Michigan State at River Wilderness Golf Club.
Wille was named medalist after winning a scorecard playoff with Michigan State’s Caroline Powers, who shared the lead with Wille entering the final round. The victory was the second of Wille’s collegiate career.
For the second straight tournament to open the Lady Jaguars’ 2013 spring schedule, Wille was tied for the lead heading into the third and final round Tuesday. She tallied two birdies against two bogeys in her final round and notched eight birdies over the course of her 54 holes.
With Wille’s effort, the Lady Jaguars posted a 305 for the second straight day and finished eighth in the tournament at 916 (+52). ASU junior Casey Kennedy tied for 20th despite a final-round 79. Senior Marit Bjerke enjoyed her best round of the event with a 2-over 74 and tied for 47th. Senior Julia Stalbro signed for an 80 and junior Christine Duschek-Hansen had an 82.
SMU combined for a 293 (+5) and overtook Vanderbilt to win the team title by two strokes. Host Michigan State was third, while Denver and Iowa State moved up to fourth and fifth place, respectively, by posting the low round of the day with a 292 (+4).
