Millewski, Miller earn PBC weekly awards on the diamond

AUGUSTA, Ga. – University of South Carolina Aiken baseball players Ryan Milewski and Sean Miller garnered weekly honors from the Peach Belt Conference office on Tuesday, March 5, 2013.

Milewski was tabbed as the league’s Pitcher of the Week, while Miller was chosen as the conference’s Freshman of the Week. Both earn weekly honors from the league for the first time.

Milewski pitched an absolute gem in USC Aiken's 3-0 shutout game one win over Flagler on Friday, March 1.

In dealing the first complete game of the year for the Pacers, the senior right-handed pitcher allowed just two hits and fanned five Saints. He walked just two in the contest. The Saints hit just .071 against him in the game.

Milewski (West Boylston, Mass./West Boylston HS) owns a baseball Peach Belt Conference-best 0.28 earned run average.

Miller (Crofton, Md./Archbishop Spalding HS) hit .400 (4-for-10) in USC Aiken’s three-game sweep of Flagler. He finished the sweep with a pair of doubles and two RBIs.

The freshman shorstop collected at least one hit in all three games and went 2-for-4 with a double in the second game win over Flagler. He owned a .600 slugging percentage and a .417 on-base percentage over the course of the series.

Nationally sixth-ranked USC Aiken will open this week by closing out its season-opening 17-game homestand by welcoming regional rival and current national No. 25 Catawba to the 'Bert for a two-game series. The two-game series will open with a 2 p.m. contest on Tuesday, March 5. One day later, USC Aiken and Catawba will conclude their two-game midweek series with a 6 p.m. game on Wednesday, March 6.

The Pacers will then close their week by traveling to Savannah, Ga. for their first road contests of the 2013 season. The Pacers will face league foe Armstrong Atlantic State for a three-game series on Saturday, March 9 and Sunday, March 10. The three-game series will open with a doubleheader on March 9. First pitch in the doubleheader is slated for 11 a.m. The series will close with a single 1 p.m. game on March 10.
