Oct. 14, 2013 SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Walter Payton Award candidate Jerick McKinnon was named the Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week today for his efforts in Saturday’s 28-21 victory over The Citadel. From the B-Back position, McKinnon led Georgia Southern with 198 yards rushing on 32 carries and scored two touchdowns. He compiled 59 yards on the Eagles’ final scoring drive, including a 30-yard burst up the middle to put the Eagles inside The Citadel’s 10-yard line to set up the game-winning touchdown.
With his fourth-straight game with 100 or more yards rushing, McKinnon is working his way up the Georgia Southern career rushing yards list and now stands in fifth place with 3,643 yards. He has sole ownership of eighth place on the Eagles’ career rushing touchdowns list with his two touchdowns Saturday for 38 total.
