Augusta, Ga--A big change in the high school coaching ranks today as Aquinas's Matt LeZotte has notified the school he's taking a job as an assistant at Wayne County,
LeZotte took a program at Aquinas and turned them into a true contender in the state mix. After two years as an assistant, he took over as head coach four years ago and amassed a 28 and 16 record, including the last two in which the irish hosted playoff games for the first time ever. The last two years were the best with 8 wins last season and nine the previous year.
"It was definitely my career" said Matt LeZotte "Just taking different stages of my career that I wanted to be a student of another system, larger program, and this will give me the opportunity to do that with all the tools. I'm very thankful for the opportunity that I've had here and you know you always want to leave a place in a better situation then when you got it and we definitely did."
LeZotte will join the staff with another former Augusta area coach, Jody Grooms, who spent a few years at lakeside. Wayne County is class 4-A so its a big step up
