Martinez, Ga--It has been a crazy season for the Lakeside football team to say the least. A tough as nails schedule and then throw in some key injuries. When those injuries happen, people need to step up and this past Friday, it was quarterback Tanner Brassell doing just that and earning our Academy Sports and Outdoors player of the week award.
Brassell started the year on the defensive side of the ball but an injury here and there and for the past two and a half games he's been under center. Against houston county, you couldn't have asked for a better peformance. 15 of 18 passes, 325 yars and three touchdowns.
"I had good protection up front and I knew it was going to be coming" said Tanner Brassell "So I just stayed back, the pressure came, I got out of there and delivered a good ball."
"To be there and see how it unfolded, it was pretty exciting to watch a lot of those touchdown throws" said Jarrett Troxler "A lot of those throws he made were on the run, making defenders miss and keeping his eyes down field. Things like that you wouldn't expect from a guy who hadn't played quarterback in two years."
Brassell did play quarterback when he was in 9th and 10th grade and readily admits he never had a game quite like this.
