AUGUSTA, Ga.- After two sequential Peach Belt Conference losses, the Augusta State Jaguars responded at home with a 75-70 victory over Armstrong Atlantic State University on Saturday, Jan. 12 at Christenberry Fieldhouse.

ASU advances to 9-2 overall, 2-2 in the PBC, while the Pirates move to 6-7 overall and 1-5 in conference.

Armstrong junior Tori Klewicki-McNutt paced the Pirates with 24 points, while senior Demisha Mills added 11 of her own.

The Jags allowed Armstrong an 8-0 lead to start off the game, but quickly collected themselves after Tanchelle Hollingsworth hit two consecutive deep-balls to bring ASU with two, 8-10. A three-pointer from senior Brittany White at the 8:59 mark gave the Jags their first lead of the game, 21-20.

A pair of steals from White and Tiffany Jaecks, led the defensive turnaround for ASU in the first half and resulted in a couple of Taylor Ayers layups. The Jags out-rebounded AASU by two and scored nine points off turnovers.

Laci Schreiber stretched the ASU lead by eight on a jumper in the lane with 17:30 on the clock. The Jags missed their next six shots, committed three turnovers, and four fouls to allow the Pirates back into the game.

Armstrong tied it at 50-50 with 12:55 left, but another trey from White put the Jags up and they never let the lead go. White’s steal on a Pirate fast break attempt with 33 seconds left in the game, sealed the ASU victory.

“We are starting to get used to each other offensively,” Head coach Nate Teymer said. “We have to start getting some scoring from other places. It’s not just one person that has to step up; it has to be a team effort.”

White did it all with a team-leading 16 points, seven rebounds, six assists, and six steals. Hollingsowrth added 15 points, while Ayers added 13. The Jags had five less turnovers than AASU and scored 22 points off Pirate turnovers.

The Jaguars continue conference play on Thursday, Jan. 17 when they host Flagler in Christenberry Fieldhouse for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
