DAHLONEGA, Ga. -- Augusta State senior forward Taylor Ayers hit a pair of jumpers in the final three minutes Saturday afternoon to lift Augusta State to a 54-52 Peach Belt Conference road win over North Georgia in Memorial Hall.

With the victory, the Lady Jaguars picked up their third straight win and improved to 11-2 on the season and 5-2 in the PBC. The Saints slipped to 5-9 overall and 3-4 in the league.

Ayers paced ASU with 14 points and eight rebounds. Eryka Menzies booked 10 points, all in the first half and Tiffany Jaecks added eight points. Brittany White, the PBC steals leader, logged seven steals, six points and rebounds. Jaecks and Tanchelle Hollingsworth had three steals each.

Jaymee Carnes, the conference’s second-leading scorer, was held five points under her average and finished with 14 and 11 rebounds. Mimi Hill added 11 points and Stephanie Huffman chipped in nine.

ASU shot 36.5 percent for the game but just 22.9 percent in the second half. The Lady Jags won the rebounding battle, 39-35, and racked up 18 steals while forcing 23 UNG turnovers.

The Lady Jags led the entire way until North Georgia’s Keeley Chester canned a trey in transition at the 4:50 mark to put the Saints in front, 51-50. Ayers rattled home a jumper from the left baseline on a feed from Jaecks to knot the game at 52-all. Following a Saints’ turnover, Ayers drained another jumper from the same spot on ASU’s next possession at the 2:19 mark to put the Jags in front 54-52.

North Georgia was forced to foul, but neither team scored the rest of the way. White got a hand on a potential go-ahead 3-pointer from Huffman on the Saints’ final possession and the clock ran out.

ASU jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first 2:08 of the half on two Hollingsworth 3-pointers from the left wing. The Lady Jags shot 53.6 percent in the opening half and led by as many as 10 after a pair of baseline jumpers from Menzies, the second at the 4:21 mark. Menzies and Ayers combined for 18 points in the first half.

ASU hosts Georgia College for the third annual “Battle Of The Cats” on Monday, Jan. 21 at 5:30 p.m., in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
