AUGUSTA, Ga. – Augusta State’s seniors showed out Saturday afternoon on Homecoming and Senior Day for a 55-40 Peach Belt Conference victory over Francis Marion in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
ASU (19-5, 13-4 in PBC) and FMU (10-12, 5-11) struggled from the floor in the first half, with the Lady Jaguars shooting 25 percent to Francis Marion’s 12 percent. ASU went 5-for-5 at the free-throw line to boost them to a 20-12 halftime lead.
Senior Brittany White, who dealt six assists and nabbed five steals, scored first in the game on a layup from the right side. Only 18 points were scored in the game by the 7:35 mark – tied nine-all. After an ASU basket, the Lady Jags took a 13-9 lead off two free throws from senior Laci Schreiber, and senior Tiffany Jaecks capped off the half’s scoring with a jumper from the right side. Jaecks posted a career-high 16 points, while senior Taylor Ayers notched her fifth double-double of the season with 17 points and 15 rebounds.
ASU scored three unanswered baskets to open the second half and took a 26-12 lead on a fast-break layup from White. ASU scored 10 fast-break points to the Patriots’ zero and never let go of the lead in the second. Schreiber added eight points and seven boards in the contest for ASU.
The Jags’ 44 percent from the floor and 32 points in the paint were too much in the second half, as ASU rolled to a 55-40 win, holding FMU to 27 percent shooting in the game.
The Lady Jags head to conference-rivals USC Aiken on Saturday, Feb. 23 for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
