King snaps USCA men's 20-game home win streak, 88-84

AIKEN, S.C. – The University of South Carolina Aiken men’s basketball team had its program-record 20-game regular-season home winning streak come to an end in an 88-84 non-conference loss to King on Sunday afternoon at the Convocation Center.

The loss was the first at home during the regular-season for the Pacers since narrowly falling 66-64 to Georgia College on Feb. 12, 2011. USC Aiken’s 20-game home regular-season winning streak commenced next with the Pacers garnering a 54-53 win over Lander on Feb. 23, 2011.

USC Aiken was a perfect 14-0 during the regular-season at home in the 2011-12 season. The Pacers entered Sunday’s loss to King 5-0 at the Convocation Center in the 2012-13 season.

USC Aiken (6-3) dominated most of the first half in the loss to King (8-1), going ahead by as many as 12 with just over seven minutes to play in the first stanza.

King would battle its way back into the contest the rest of the first half with USC Aiken taking a one-point 45-44 lead into intermission.

USC Aiken started the second half on a 7-0 spurt that saw the Pacers go ahead 51-44 with 17:52 left in the game.

King did not earn its first lead of the second half until there was under 10 minutes to play in the contest.

The two teams would battle back-and-forth over the next few minutes with the game tied 80-80 with 3:19 remaining.

The Pacers would have their chances down the stretch, but King would hold off the USC Aiken charge in claiming the narrow four-point win.

Both teams shot extremely well in the contest with USC Aiken ending its loss shooting 52.5 percent (31-for-59) as a team. The Tornado shot 54.2 percent (26-for-48) as a team in the game.

King connected on 52.2 percent (12-of-23) of its 3-point attempts in the game, while USC Aiken hit 40 percent (10-for-25) of its 3-point attempts as a team.

The Pacers were 12-for-17 (70.6 percent) from the free throw line in the game. King shot 75 percent (24-for-32) as a team from the charity stripe in the contest.

Five Pacers finished in double figures with Ronald Zimmerman (Columbia, S.C./Spring Valley HS) leading the way with 17 points to go along with a career-best six assists.

Jesse Seilern (Innsbruck, Austria/Kapfenberg HS) ended his day with 15 points. He was 5-for-8 from the field and 4-of-5 from the free throw line in the game.

Three Pacers claimed 10 points each in Paul Larsen (Mooresville, N.C./Mercer), DeVontae Wright (Goose Creek, S.C./The Citadel) and Shane Porchea (Decatur, Ga./USC Upstate).

Santoine Butler (Augusta, Ga./Gardner-Webb) led the Pacers with three blocks.

Logan Lyle was the top performer for the Tornado in their win with 22 points. Jason Seymore was right behind with 20 points.

USC Aiken will next hit the road to face off against Peach Belt Conference foe Georgia Southwestern in Americus, Ga. on Thursday, Jan. 3. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
