Jarrett Troxler leaving Lakeside to take Greenbrier head coaching job

March 25, 2014 EVANS, Ga. -- Very rarely do we see a head coach leave one school to go to another within the same county. Nonetheless-- a rival.

That's the case with Lakeside and Greenbrier as Jarrett Troxler is leaving Lakeside to take over the Wolfpack football program.

The Columbia County Board of Education made the recommendation and approved the move. Troxler takes over the Greenbrier job from Kevin Hunt, who resigned after two seasons.

It's a surprise to many. Troxler had the Panther program on the cusp of being a true playoff contender.

In four years as the Panthers head coach, Troxler finished with a 21-22 record, including three straight trips to the playoffs. While Greenbrier has two wins in the last two seasons, including a winless 2014 season. Troxler understands the challenge ahead.

"Anytime anybody tells me you can't do something... it adds motivation to that. The opportunity to do something, build something, really drew me to that," Troxler said.

Family was another important piece in the Greenbrier decision. Troxler already has connections to the community, but it was just as tough to leave his lakeside family.

"Family is always first. I tell my guys that faith and family come before everything. It did play a role in it. We live in that community. I believe it's best for my career and my family right now. A lot of people may disagree and that's fine," Troxler said.

How much of a challenge will it be? You have to go back to 2003 when Greenbrier last had an above .500 record. Now, it's Troxler's job to bring this program back to life.
