Jaguars Roll Braves On Road, 63-40

Jan. 25, 2014 PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Jaguars earned a 63-40 Peach Belt Conference road win at UNC Pembroke on Saturday afternoon with three in double-figures and 28 points from the bench in the English E. Jones Center.

GRU Augusta (9-7, 5-4) earned the sweep over the Braves shooting 46.7 percent from the field to UNCP’s 26.9. Three Jags hit double-figure points, with starters J’ Ashby (13) and Brooke McCants (10) leading the way. Tavia Sykes came off the bench to put up 10 points and Marissa Mandeldove added nine.

The Jags lost the rebound contest 35-to-34, despite GRU’s Becky Newhouse grabbing nine with five points and Whitney Rohrbach pulling in seven with five points. GRU commanded the first half with a 38-22 lead going into the break and never gave it up.

UNCP’s (6-12, 2-9) Kierra Haney had a team-best nine points with eight rebounds and Kamille Horne scored eight while Jazmine Kemp added six points and six rebounds. The Jaguars shot 41.7 percent from the arc (5-of-12), making two more deep shots than the Braves’ three of 26, shooting 11.5 from three land.

The Jags host Armstrong on Thursday, Jan. 30 for a 5:30 p.m. PBC game in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
