AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State head men’s basketball coach Dip Metress announced Thursday the second addition to the Jaguar program for the 2011-12 season.
Jay Manning, a 6-3, 175-pound guard from Fairburn, Ga., has signed a national letter-of-intent with the Jaguars and will enroll at ASU for the Fall, 2011 semester.
As a senior at Arlington Christian School, Manning earned all-region and GISA all-state honors and led the Eagles in scoring at 22.0 ppg. He served as team captain, grabbed 11.0 rebounds per game and tallied 12 double-doubles. He also averaged three assists, three steals and 1.5 blocks per game and registered four 30-point games.
A 2011 Team Georgia GISA All-Star, Manning played for Coach Greg Cannon and maintained a 3.6 GPA during his prep career. He has played in both the AAU and YBOA for Atlanta Select, South Metro Mustangs, Peachtree City Panthers and Arlington Eagles.
“Jay will provide us with an athletic wing player that has shown the ability to score in a variety of ways,” said Metress. “Jay has a lot of upside as a player and we look forward to great things from him. He brings a lot of intangibles to our program and we think he will blossom in college.”
