Dec. 22, 2013 EVANS, Ga-- One of the great baseball programs in the area used it's past to help with its future.
Greenbrier High put on its annual youth baseball camp Saturday with an impressive list of alums playing the role of coach.
Current Pittsburgh Pirate pitcher Brandon Cumpton, former Gamecocks pitcher Nolan Belcher and former Georgia Tech player Jeff Rowland headlined the coaching roster.
Campers received instruction from some guys that have played on baseball's biggest stages. Yet, the message wasn't all about the diamond.
"Come out here and work hard. Make sure you do good in the classroom because there's a time when baseball ends and you have to take that next step in life," Rowland said. "Stay strong in school just as much as you do on the field."
Rowland is practicing the message he preached. Drafted by Cleveland in 2010, Rowland left the minors to complete his degree.
