Pacers Harris earns PBC honors for second straight week

AUGUSTA, Ga. – For the second straight week, University of South Carolina Aiken women’s basketball junior forward Kayla Harris has been selected as the Peach Belt Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.

The league office made the announcement on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012.

Harris has now claimed the weekly honor from the league three times in her career. In addition to acquiring league Player of the Week plaudits last week, Harris was also named Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week on Feb. 13, 2012.

Harris closed out USC Aiken’s two wins last week averaging 25 points and 11 rebounds per game. Harris shot 63.9 percent (23-for-36) from the floor in the two Pacer wins.

Harris (Raleigh, N.C./Wakefield HS) also dished out an average of 4.0 assists per game in the two contests.

In USC Aiken’s home win over UNC Pembroke on Saturday, Dec. 15, Harris ended her evening with 24 points, nine boards, four assists and a block. She was 11-for-15 (73.3 percent) from the field in the game.

Harris followed up the performance against UNC Pembroke by finishing with 26 points, a career-high tying 13 rebounds and four assists in USC Aiken’s road league win over Francis Marion on Monday, Dec. 17. Harris ended the Pacer win shooting 57.1 percent (12-for-21) from the floor.
