In his fifth start of the season, left-handed pitcher Matt Lujan (3-0) continued to show that he’s a solid part of the GreenJackets rotation. Lujan led the GreenJackets (48-41) to a 4-1 victory against the RiverDogs (50-38) in Charleston.

Lujan had his longest outing of the season on Friday after working seven innings. The southpaw allowed just seven hits, one run and two walks while striking out three batters. The RiverDogs’ lone run of the game came off a solo home run by Greg Bird in the fifth inning.

Jorge Bucardo relieved Lujan in the eighth inning and worked a perfect inning to pick up his sixth hold of the season.

Then in the ninth, closer Tyler Mizenko throw a scoreless, hitless inning to earn his 20th save.

While the GreenJackets dominated on the mound, they used seven runs to help secure their 4-1 victory against the RiverDogs.

The first run came in the third inning from left fielder Rafael Rodriguez. After reaching on a single, Rodriguez scored when shortstop Matt Duffy hit into a fielder’s choice.

Center fielder Andrew Cain scored shortly after on a single by third baseman Mitch Delfino to put the GreenJackets up 2-0.

Cain scored again in the fifth inning. After leading off the inning with a walk, Cain advanced to second on a fielding error, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Duffy and scored on a fielder’s choice by Delfino.

Then in the ninth inning, the GreenJackets added another insurance run. Right fielder Chuckie Jones led off the inning with a double to left field and then scored on a single by first baseman Joey Rapp.

Augusta and Charleston will square off Sunday at 5:05 p.m. with Justin Schumer on the mound for the GreenJackets.
