AUGUSTA, GA. -- The Augusta GreenJackets, Single-A Affiliate of the San Francisco Giants are proud to announce the field staff for the 2014 season. Little changes will be made to the staff that led the GreenJackets to the best record in the South Atlantic League last season.
Mike Goff will return in 2014 as manager of the GreenJackets. Goff led the GreenJackets to a record of 82-55 in his first season as skipper. Goff has previously managed the Arizona Rookie League Giants in 2009-2011 and was the manager of the Chattanooga Lookouts (double-A). Goff also was the first base coach and bench coach for the Seattle Mariners. Goff was drafted by the Boston Red Sox and stayed within their system as an infielder from 1984-1988.
Also joining Mike Goff on staff for a second year in a row is pitching coach Steve Kline. This will be Kline’s fourth season as pitching coach for the GreenJackets as he was on staff in 2010 and 2011. Kline led a strong pitching staff that led the league in strikeouts and saves. His staff also produced the fourth best ERA and achieved 12 shutout performances. Kline’s tutelage helped two GreenJackets starters (Flores and Stratton) to top-10 league ERAs.
Hector Borg will be the final returnee from the 2013 staff. Borg, a former Augusta GreenJacket, will be a Co-Hitting Coach for the club in 2014. Borg will be joined by Co-Hitting Coach Todd Linden. Linden was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in 2001 and played with the Giants from 2003-2007 before joining the Florida Marlins for one season.
Rounding out the 2014 staff are trainer Andrew Benning and strength and conditioning coach Cesar Vasquez.
“We are excited to have a majority of the field staff back from 2013,” said Augusta GreenJackets General Manager Tom Denlinger. “The staff last season led us to a tremendous overall record and provided the CSRA with fantastic baseball. We thank the Giants for providing us with a first class staff to lead the GreenJackets in 2014.”
