Augusta, GA – Edwin Escobar has become the latest in what is becoming a long line of Augusta GreenJackets pitchers to receive honors from the South Atlantic League. Today, the GreenJackets lefty was named South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week for the Week of August 20-26 in an announcement made by league president Eric Krupa.
Escobar’s latest outing – his second straight start lasting eight innings or longer – came on Saturday night when he held the Greensboro Grasshoppers scoreless in eight innings. He allowed four hits and a walk and he struck out nine – the second straight start where Escobar has fanned nine, one shy of his career-high.
This is the fourth time this season that a GreenJacket has won Pitcher of the Week honors and the fifth time a GreenJackets has received the league honor. Previously, Kyle Crick won the award while Adalberto Mejia has earned the honor on two separate occasions. In addition, outfielder Shawn Payne took home the league’s Player of the Week honor two weeks ago.
