Saturday, October 13, 2012

KINGSTON, R.I. (AP) -- Donald Russell ran for a school record 201 yards on 21 carries, including two touchdowns, while Ben McLane passed for two more scores as Georgia State rolled to a 41-7 win over Rhode Island in Colonial Athletic Association action Saturday.

The win is Georgia State's first as a member of the Football Bowl Subdivision.

Russell's outburst marked his fourth 100-plus yard effort in seven games this year. He scored on rushing plays of 45 and 6 yards, and also reeled in a 35-yard touchdown pass from McLane early in the first quarter.

Georgia State (1-6, 1-3) jumped to a 24-0 halftime lead, and expanded the advantage to 41-0 before the Rams (0-6, 0-3) scored in the fourth. Joe Migliarese did the honors, pulling in a 16-yard pass from Robert Bentson.

Rhode Island was outgained on the ground 274-104, and allowed Georgia State to pick up 8.1 yards per carry.
