North Augusta, SC--They're one of the premier baseball teams in the nation and their number nine national ranking has something to do with that. The South Carolina baseball team on the verge of big things again this year.
To that end, Gamecock coach Chad Holbrook making an appearance in North Augusta today, speaking at the mayor's prayer luncheon. A great opportunity to talk a little baseball as well and in particular, Taylor Widner, the South Aiken product. The freshmen is doing it all for the Gamecocks, from pitching to DHing and Holbrook is very high on his future.
"His make up, his mentality, it takes a special guy to play in the Southeastern Conference and to excel in the SEC and Taylor has all those intangibles that you want." said Chald Holbrook "He's going to have a bright career, a bright future for us, but he's going to be a darn good professional baseball player too. And he's gonig to DH a lot more as the year goes on, and pitch a lot more, he's playing his best baseball right now."
With a month to go, the Gamecocks are still trying to get healthy, some key injuries have set them back a bit. They travel to Athens for a weekend series with the Bulldogs as the final month of the season is upon us.
