Gamecocks' Pankake named SEC and Louisville Slugger Player of the Week

Columbia, S.C. – Sophomore shortstop Joey Pankake has been named “Louisville Slugger’s” National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball and is among three other players to earn the honor. Pankake belted four homers, scored seven runs and knocked in nine runs for the Gamecocks last week over five games as he hit .438 (7-for-16).

For the season, Pankake is hitting .326 (15-for-46) with four homers, 14 RBI and 11 runs scored. He is currently on a seven-game hitting streak.

Columbia, S.C. – Sophomore shortstop Joey Pankake has been named SEC Player of the Week. He had a productive week at the plate as he hit .438 (7-for-16) in the five games with four homers, seven runs scored and nine RBI. Pankake hit a pair of three-run homers in each of the wins over Ball State. He then homered in both Saturday and Sunday's victories over Rider.

For the season, Pankake is hitting .326 (15-for-46) with four homers, 14 RBI and 11 runs scored. He is currently on a seven-game hitting streak.

Pankake is the second Gamecock player this year to earn the honors. LB Dantzler was an honoree by the conference on Feb. 25.
