AUGUSTA, Ga. – The GRU Augusta women’s basketball team announced its schedule for the 2013-14 season on Tuesday afternoon, according to an announcement from Head Coach Nate Teymer. Last season, the Jaguars recorded their winningest regular season in school history (21-6) and won the Peach Belt Conference’s East Division title while Head Coach Nate Teymer was named the PBC Coach of the Year.
This year, they’re taking nothing off as they open their new slate on Saturday, Nov. 16 in Gaffney, S.C., at Limestone – a 27-4 team in 2012-13 who lost to Clayton State in the NCAA Southeast Regional.
After the season opener, the Jags will play in the Clark Atlanta Classic on Nov. 22-23 and travel to Benedict on Tuesday, Nov. 26. GRU Augusta plays under the new name for the first time on Nov. 30 when they welcome cross-town rival Paine College to Christenberry Fieldhouse. Four of the five scheduled non-conference opponents had a winning record last year.
“I feel we have a schedule that will be very challenging and exciting for the 2013-14 season,” Head Coach Nate Teymer said. “The Peach Belt Conference schedule is always difficult and we’ve strengthened our non-conference schedule, so we’ll see where we are at a pretty early stage.”
Lander meets the Jags in the CFH on Saturday, Dec. 7 for GRU Augusta’s third consecutive home game. The Jags find their first PBC road test at Montevallo on Tuesday, Dec. 17 before playing their last non-conference game before the holidays at Coker in Hartsville, S.C., on Wednesday, Dec. 21.
GRU Augusta kicks off the 2014 helping of its season with Francis Marion and UNC Pembroke in back-to-back PBC battles on Thursday, Jan. 2 and Sunday, Jan. 5 in the CFH. The Jags host Armstrong on Thursday, Jan. 30 and tangle with USC Aiken in the Convocation Center on Saturday, Feb. 1 before traveling to Clayton State on Wednesday, Feb. 5.
GRU Augusta will see 17-consecutive PBC games – highlighted by Play4Kay, a breast cancer awareness night, on Saturday, Feb. 8 with Young Harris. Homecoming on Saturday, Feb. 15 features Georgia Southwestern and Senior Day vs. Flagler is on Saturday, March 1 and marks the last regular-season game before the conference championships on March 6-9 in Columbus, Ga.
